Grandma's favorite motif, final

Its very odd but I used to find this difficult to do, but this went smoothly. I have ordered a book on Palestinian embroidery and hope it has the name of this particular design. Our motifs were sometimes abstract geometrical stand ins for things found in nature.
I had set this up wrong. I was thinking of making a scissor fob but the 3 rows in between was just not enough space to fold over. Lesson learned. It's now not a scissor fob:)  I also now see that  metal thread is its own creature as it behaves in ways I didn't expect, i.e twists rather than laying flat. I am intrigued rather than frustrated however.

Update on our group embroidery effort... We have not come up with a name but our first project will be a needle case. Launching soon. We will welcome non Facebook participation too... Perhaps a Flickr group is in order. Just drop me a line in comments  if you would like to join in. Needle cases can be so fun! And everybody needs one.

  1. I read the other parts, to these motifs as well, and they've finished so lovely. You're so clever! My time is taken up, with other hand-creating stuff, so unfortunately, would not be able to participate in your new embroidery group. But I could, as a spectator. I'll let you decide. ;)

    1. If ever you have time Chris, please tell me. When I started that botanical group, so many joined but hardly anybody did art. Remember? But, theres another reason that I can tell privately too. We might loosen up eventually. I disline Facebook as tbe pkatfkrm but nothing else fully fits. We are very far behind our launch at anyrate.

    2. I remember the botanical art group you started. Botanical Hacks. I just checked my FB groups page, for reference. The last post was done by you, in late 2015! How time flies. It was a terrific idea, but perhaps not enough people who specialised in botanical subjects, to post more regularly. I can see why you would like active participants to join the embroidery group. :)

Is it going to be a closed group? Because I may know several people who might be interested. Through their blogs, they do embroidery.
